Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are investigating a gun violence incident that erupted on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area as law enforcement were clearing a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.
Background
Law enforcement were first dispatched to Howe Community Park shortly before half past six in the evening after learning of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Shortly after, another report was received mentioning a potential altercation unfolding within the park grounds.
Aerial units flew over the park but reported no active disturbance. However, authorities discovered that several hundred individuals had come together at the location in an unauthorized manner.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by surrounding the park and using their vehicle PA systems telling the hundreds present to vacate the area. Nearly 15 minutes were provided for the gathering to break up.
It was during this dispersal that between 20 and 25 rounds echoed through the night. The shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Responding personnel wasted no time in finding those who had been shot.
Four Victims Hospitalized
When the dust settled, four shooting victims were located with gunshot injuries. The victims — made up of one woman and three men each apparently in their mid to late twenties — were airlifted or driven to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff indicated that two victims were in serious condition, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and get more info one had injuries classified as minor. Metro Fire Sacramento were called to the scene and helped care for the four victims prior to hospital transport.
What Investigators Found
The center of the incident was confirmed to have occurred on the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Investigators found extra shell casings on Cottage Way. Bullet damage were also found in the wrought iron perimeter fencing bordering the Home Depot. The physical evidence confirmed that at least one shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The store itself was temporarily locked down while the scene was active. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives kept processing evidence through the early morning hours.
Detainees in Solano County
Information relayed over scanner radio traffic showed that a suspect Kia had been detained in an area within Solano County. Four occupants were held for questioning. Deputies were en route to collect those detained to transport the detainees for processing in Sacramento County. Video evidence established that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
